Jack and Erin's Wedding!

This past weekend Jack married Erin Breslin in Santa Barbara.

Erin is smart, sassy, strong, funny, and beautiful. She and Jack are nearly inseparable, and when they are together, they talk and laugh nonstop like two school kids. As Donna noted in her beautiful, heartfelt remarks at the rehearsal dinner, it's hard to know what they have left to talk about after carrying on this continual conversation for more than three years. It is obvious to anyone who sees them that they are head over heels in love.

Donna and I had met Erin's parents last December in Philadelphia. We immediately became friends and found that we shared a lot of common values -- particularly the importance of family.

It was great to see them again in Santa Barbara and to meet their son Gerard and many of their siblings and in-laws.

It also was great to meet some of Jack's fellow YouTubers. There's a culture of camaraderie in the industry, and many of them were eager to help Jack when he was getting started -- Joe Nation, Jess Lizama, Sean Klitzner, Olga Kay, the Fine Brothers, and many others.

And it was a fine opportunity for us to have some fun time with our family. After all, what's the point if you don't celebrate life's good times with your family?

After marrying off our two daughters, which were emotionally wracking events for me, this wedding was less of a strain on my nerves. It was just the opposite for Donna.

Donna's relationship with Jack is special. Just as I may have been more protective of our girls than she, Donna, more than me, has been Jack's champion and advocate.

This isn't to say that Jack and I don't have a very close relationship -- we do. But as  proud as I was of Jack for finding a wonderful girl who is a perfect match for him, of taking that leap into lifelong commitment with her, and overcoming all the obstacles that lay in his path to achieve the success he has earned, Donna's pride is greater, for she invested more into his development.

That special bond between Jack and Donna  was on full display, as was the beautiful bond between Jack and Erin.

Congratulations!

  2. I am so happy for both of them. Our fandom couldn't really wait to know when they were actually getting married because jack started hinting in 2015 only.
They both are so compatible with each other, it's so precious just to witness, sometimes. What they share is truly craved by many.
I am just so happy for both of them, that I'm crying since I saw John's first picture, of him in a tuxedo, on twitter.
    Congratulations to you, too.
They'd redefine the true meaning of love and make theirs and apotheosis to behold.
Thank you so much for sharing. :)

  3. Gorgeous couple! They remind me of us. It has been 15 years to our marriage and I am so glad I have spent these happy years with the love of my life. God bless you guys and may you live together forever. Also, my wedding was also in one of the Seattle Wedding venues that looked just like this. Oh! you guys made me nostalgic.

Donna and I recently took the trip of a lifetime, a safari in Tanzania on Africa’s central east coast. We visited Tarangire National Park, with multiple herds of elephants; Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which features the renowned Ngorongoro crater; and Serengeti National Park. Serengeti, like Ngorongoro, is a UNESCO World Heritage site; it is home to some 1.5 million migratory wildebeest, 400,000 zebra, 3,000 lions, and many other herbivores and predators. After much research, we booked our 10-day excursion through Micato Safaris . It was a great choice. We were pampered with luxurious accommodations, incredibly up-close animal sightings, and vast amounts of fascinating information. It was a life-changing experience that greatly exceeded our most optimistic hopes. We arrived in Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro International Airport after a 10,000-mile, 26-hour journey, and were greeted by our remarkable tour director, Joseph Mushi, and a driver. We hopped into the rugged Toyota Land Cruiser,

Getting Lost in a Good Book (or 21)

I’ve always been a reader, from my childhood on, and the allure of getting lost in a good book has never released its grip on me. Since my retirement in June 2022, I’ve been reading a lot. Here are some of my favorite books from the past year; let me know your thoughts about these or others! Fiction 100 Years of Solitude , Gabriel García Márquez – Márquez’s fantastical epic about the Colombian Buendia family is one of the greatest books I’ve read. Cold Mountain , Charles Frazier – Outstanding literary novel about a wounded Civil War soldier’s desertion and return to home. Beautifully written prose. Age of Vice , Deepti Kapoor – Great fictional account of a poor Indian boy’s introduction to the Indian mafia, his rise and fall within, and his ultimate redemption. The Slope of Memory ,  Jos é  Geraldo Vieira – A cerebral tale of a Brazilian writer that is like a mashup of a D.H. Laurence novel and the philosophical dialectic of Plato’s Republic (but much more entertaining than I’m

In recent years we’ve rented houses on New Jersey’s Long Beach Island for a week and hosted our kids and their families. This year, we decided to try something new: Donna and I rented a house on North Carolina’s Outer Banks for a week to kick off summer with our children and their families. It was one of the best family vacations we’ve had. The weather was fantastic the entire week. The ocean water was so warm that even Donna got in. The beach was composed of soft, powdery sand and the waves were mostly calm. Skittish ghost crabs, with their pincers up and their eyes atop periscope-like stalks, would partially emerge from their hiding holes in the sand, cautiously sidestep a couple feet, then dart to another hole. Patrols of pelicans, rarely seen at LBI, were ubiquitous, and we saw dolphins arching just past the breakers nearly every day. The house Donna had found – she has a knack for finding great vacation houses – was perfect. Oceanfront with private beach access. Pool. Seven be
